Last week, Professor Dan Andreae received the Governor Generals Caring Canadian Award for his exceptional contribution to Canadian society including volunteering, inspirational community leadership and excellence in education.

The award, created in 1995, recognizes individuals whose volunteer work creates a smarter and more caring Canada.

Professor Andreae received this award for his outstanding contributions to health care and education, and also in recognition of his annual lecture series called the Dr. Dan Andreae Distinguished Presidential Lectures on Living in Healthy Communities. This year’s lecture featured Dr. James Orbinski, and almost 700 attended this free event at Laurentian University in January.

In November 2014, Professor Andreae was also named one of ten Leading Men in Canada by the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, one of the world’s premier research institutes. “They have operations in Canada and it was the Canadian continent that bestowed this honour on the occasion of their 50th anniversary. I was honoured along with William Shatner (Star Trek fame) and the CEO and President of Air Canada, among others,” said Professor Andreae, who was chosen for his huge strides in education and his outstanding work as a community advocate.
